In the spring of 2009 residents of the Magnolia’s Assisted Living Home, located in Conyers, Georgia, held a yard sale in an effort to raise scholarship money for Saint Sophia’s Young Women’s Retreat. What a joy it was for these seniors to offer three scholarships for girls in need of assistance.
The service project for girls’ camp that year was to build Legacy’s Vintage Fashion and Variety Show. In the summer of 2009, the show made its debut at The Magnolia’s in honor of the residents generosity.
The show now tours the senior community throughout Georgia, from Social Circle to Powder Springs Georgia.
As you give so shall you receive.
The young ladies delight in modeling clothes from pioneer days to the 1960’s. They are taught some runway techniques to showcase outfits as they move to tunes born out of each decade. Between costume changes performers demonstrate years of training in song and dance. Added to the programs are fun games such as: Vintage Trivia, Name That Tune and Guess Who.
The grand finale is a swirling movement of beautiful evening gowns waltzing around to Lawrence Welk’s, Au Revoir, Aufwiedersehn.... and a fare share of blowing bubbles.
Legacy’s Vintage Fashion and Variety Show is a sentimental journey that opens the heart whether your in the show or taking it in. Sweet memories have residence laughing, crying, singing along and dancing in their seats. By the end of the show the communication that takes place between audience and models is a fabulous ice-breaker that bridges the gap between the ages.
If you would like to be part of the show or book an engagement contact us. The door is open to all who want to take a stroll down memory lane. The program has grown to include girls from junior high through college students, to senior citizens and all ages in-between. Technical volunteers, and backstage folks are needed. It's good medicine for everyone, and a fabulous way to get involved serving the community. We look forward to hearing from you.
